Volunteer Work at Urban Ventures.
Jack Strawder, 68 of Minneapolis, MN is a lifelong athlete and sports fan. Jack’s passion for football and unwavering dedication to the Minnesota Vikings is matched only by his profound commitment to helping young African American men reconnect with their children. Through his volunteer work at the Father Project, Jack has channeled his own experiences as a parent and a grandfather to guide others toward healthier relationships with their families. With a background in sociology and having held the position of Director of the Family Program at Urban Ventures, Jack has used his personal journey to inspire other men to break harmful cycles and establish stronger connections with their children. He strives to break generational patterns within his community and has been recognized for his efforts, earning the Hawthorne Huddle 2022 Award of Appreciation for his mentorship and advocacy. In 2014, Jack faced a life-altering challenge when he needed a heart transplant due to his past lifestyle choices. This experience forced him to reevaluate his priorities and become a better father and mentor. Throughout his recovery journey, Jack learned the value of humility and transformation, leading him to guide young men toward healthier life choices.
Minnesota Vikings Fan.
As an ardent Minnesota Vikings fan, Jack's heart beats for his community and his favorite football team. Despite living just minutes away from the US Bank Stadium, he has never had the opportunity to witness a live Vikings game. His profound connection to sports and his commitment to mentoring young men make him a deserving candidate for a Wish of a Lifetime from AARP.
On October 23, 2023, Jack and his long-time partner traveled to US Bank Stadium and attended his first live Vikings Game. Jack's legacy is one of resilience, mentorship, and dedication to fostering stronger bonds between fathers and children. His wish to experience the excitement of a Minnesota Vikings game is not just a personal desire; it symbolizes a lifetime of hard work and the embodiment of the values he holds dear.
